Idrissa Gueye, a Seneal midfielder, has warned England that the Terangha Lions are sure of defeating them in their 2022 FIFA World Cup Round of 16 match.
Aliou Cisse’s team advanced to the second round after defeating Ecuador 2-1 on Tuesday.
The African champions finished second in Group A, behind the Netherlands.
“The last 16 is not the goal,” midfielder Gueye said after the emotional win over Ecuador that set up Sunday’s game with Gareth Southgate’s team at Al Bayt Stadium.
“We see beyond than that.” We have no boundaries. We have a squad that can go far. We can achieve something incredibly interesting in this competition if we keep playing like this.”
The message to 17million Senegalese people from captain and goal hero Kalidou Koulibaly had a similar theme.
“Don’t party, don’t be happy,” said Chelsea defender Koulibaly. “We did something good but it’s only the beginning. England or whoever, we will do everything to win the game. We are Senegal, we fear no-one. Lot’s of teams don’tA want to play against us.”
