‘In Qatar, the Super Eagles would have been humiliated.’ —Siasia

Former Nigeria international Samson Siasia believes the Super Eagles would have been humiliated in Qatar at the recently ended 2022 World Cup.

The Eagles failed to qualify for the 2022 World Cup after losing in the playoffs to the Black Stars of Ghana in March of this year.

The Black Stars, on the other hand, were eliminated in the group round after winning one and losing two games.

Cameroon and Tunisia also failed to advance beyond the group stage, despite victories over Brazil and France, respectively.

Senegal and Morocco were the only African sides to advance to the round of 16, with the latter being the first African country to reach the World Cup semi-finals.

And speaking after the conclusion of the World Cup, Siasia dismissed talks that the Eagles would have done well.

“We would have been embarrassed out of the World Cup with shocking score lines,” Siasia told Football Live.

“The Super Eagles have no business going to the world cup and losing out to the Ghana team we played against is enough proof.”

Siasia was appointed Eagles coach in 2010 but was fired in 2011 after failing to lead the team to the 2012 AFCON.

In 2016 Siasia returned as Eagles coach on a temporary spell after the resignation of former teammate Sunday Oliseh but once again failed to pick the 2017 AFCON ticket.

The 55-year-old helped Nigeria win the 1994 AFCON in Tunisia and was a member of the the side that featured at the World Cup the same year.
